To launch a campaign or not…

Launching a “this will do for now” campaign is worse than not launching at all, and here’s why.

The B2B CMO tenure window sits between 3 and 3.5 years on average. The fastest way to shorten it is accumulating a record of underfunded campaigns that looked like failures but were set up to fail from the brief. Leadership rarely distinguishes between “we launched something bad” and “we launched something underfunded.” The scar on the record looks the same from the outside.

A campaign launched at half the required budget doesn’t produce half the results. It produces near zero signal, zero learnings, and a much harder conversation next quarter when you need to go back and ask for more.

Our advice is to wait. Build the content assets while the budget conversation is still open. Go to management with competitor benchmarks, honest projections, and a clear picture of what the minimum viable campaign actually looks like. Win the internal argument before the campaign launches, because once it’s live on a weak brief and a weak budget, you’ve already lost it.

Envy helps B2B marketing teams build the business case for campaigns worth running, and then run them.
